Some important facts:

-The values are different in PAL and NTSC, but they can easily be converted to the other if I remember correctly
-You need to document all the values you want to use later into a (text) file
-Setting an invalid value will crash the game
-Only works with the "Restart mission" option from the start menu (not after getting killed, but once you respawn at another checkpoint, your respawn-after-death checkpoint will also update)
-You can return to any place that used a checkpoint in the game, so yes, you can also return to the Metal Head Nest, the Krimzon Guard Dig, and the "Blow up Ammo at Fortress" section of the Fortress - but be careful, the tank will be there and it will still chase you just like in the mission
-This only works in PCSX2 for now, I don't have any experience with hacking a game running on a physical PS2 console.
-I am not the first person to find this, I know at least one person who have found it before me, but only for NTSC
