The ++ version was never officially built as a production model (until now and in limited quantity) but was a modification performed on request to production Mark IIC+ amps for a few mid-80s rock artists seeking the maximum gain for Crunch chording and single note soloing. This new “++” IIC build has increased gain in the preamp, which affects the LEAD Mode only, leaving the CLEAN Mode to produce the same sparkling clean performance as the standard IIC+ production model. The LEAD Mode is thicker sounding in the “++” versions with enhanced low end and more top end gain, cut, and harmonic layering.
