A massive cloudburst led to a violent flash flood and landslide in Dharali village, and the scale of destruction is heartbreaking. Homes, shops, everything just got swept away in a matter of minutes. It’s hard to imagine what the people there are going through right now, with so many confirmed dead and dozens still missing, possibly trapped under the debris. The timing of the disaster, around 1:45 PM on Tuesday, makes it even more shocking as it caught so many unaware.

The immediate aftermath has seen a heroic multi-agency response. The Indian Army’s Ibex Brigade was on the scene incredibly fast, along with multiple teams from the NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, state police, and local authorities. They are all working tirelessly on evacuation and rescue efforts, and the fact that the Army managed to evacuate 15-20 people so quickly gives a glimmer of hope. Helicopters are also on standby for any further assistance needed. With a red alert for heavy rainfall now issued for the entire Uttarakhand region, and a yellow alert for the days following, the situation remains critical, and we can only hope and pray that it doesn't worsen and that more survivors can be found.
