Wesley Chapel Gulf/Boiling Spring - Hoosier National Forest

Hike down into the gulf for a glimpse of Boiling Spring, where Indiana's subterranean Lost River bubbles up from it's underground path. The gulf is believed to have been a series of sinkholes that collapsed and slowly dissolved away, leaving an 8 acre "canyon" of sorts, with walls ranging from 25' to 95'. The 187 acre preserve is managed by the Hoosier National Forest Service, and is mostly undeveloped. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1972. Archaeological studies have found evidence of human habitation in the gulf up to 10,000 years ago.
