Faceting a beautiful bicolor Montana sapphire

Let’s facet another gem! Up on the wheel today? An incredible bicolor Montana sapphire.

I have been cutting a LOT of Montana sapphires recently, and they are quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite gemstones. The clarity, the inclusions, the color variety, and the sparkle just gets me!

Not to mention the fact that that these are COMPLETELY US mined and made 💝

This piece, unlike most I’ve worked with before, is actually heat treated! I grabbed a few new batches of treated MT sapphires, and I’m definitely starting to understand the draw.

Heating these babies just finished the process that was happening inside the Earth! The sapphires still come out with all their natural color zoning, silk, and character, but the colors are a bit brighter and the clarity is a bit better.
