Balvaird Castle, near Gateside, Fife

Balvaird Castle, situated near to Gateside in Fife, was built in the late 1400's with additions being made in the 1500's.

The castle was home to the Murrays of Balvaird who left in 1658 to reside in Scone Palace. The castle was then used as accommodation for farm labourers.

The name Balvaird originates from Baile a' Bhaird (Township of the Bard in Gaelic).

Balvaird Castle is a scheduled monument and is in the care of Historic Environment Scotland.
