Really a training tool for Wing Chun Practitioners only, but other styles of Southern Chinese Kung Fu use them too such a Praying Mantis. Primarily thy are used to help gauge hand positioning and distance. They allow elbows to be correctly positioned from your body and from each other. There is some people who talk about them as an offensive weapon but mainly they are used as a training tool.
