Welcome to our 10th episode of 'Bharat Darshan' series. In this series we talk about several Indian States and Union Territories. Today it's turn for an Indian State, the beautiful 'Sikkim'.

#Sikkim is a state in northeastern India, it borders the Tibet region of China in the north and northeast, Bhutan in the east, Nepal in the west and west bengal in the south. It is the least populas and second smallest among the Indian states. Sikkim's capital and largest city is Gangtok. 35% of the state is covered by the Khangchendzonga National park- a UNESCO world heritage site.

The kingdom of Sikkim was founded by the Namgyal dynasty in the 17th century. It become a princely state of British India in 1890. Following Indian independence, Sikkim continued its protectorate status with the union of India after 1947 and the republic of India after 1950. Till 1975 Sikkim was an independent country, here we discussed how Sikkim became part of republic of India in detail.
It enjoyed the highest literacy rate and per capita income among Himalayan states.

Modern Sikkim is a multiethnic and multilingual Indian State. The official language of the state are English, Nepali, Sikkimese and Lepcha.

The summit of Kangchenjunga, the world's 3rd highest peak, is the state's highest point, situated in Sikkim.
