Laser-assisted intraoperative imaging using indocyanine green as a fluorescent dye and marker of tissue perfusion has demonstrated efficacy in plastic surgery for identifying tissues at risk for ischemia and informing subsequent surgical management.
We present an alternative indocyanine green imaging system for assessing intraoperative perfusion that is significantly more economically accessible. Notably, the cost of the imaging system presented in this publication is approximately the cost of a single use of most commercial ICG imaging systems. Constructed using commonly acquired materials for a fraction of the current cost, intraoperative indocyanine green imaging may become more financially viable, allowing a greater population of patients to benefit from this technology.
