Nepal’s government banned 26 major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, and X. But Gen-Z youth rose up against the decision, linking it with corruption and censorship.

The protests turned deadly—tear gas, bullets, and clashes left at least 19 people dead and over 100 injured. The Home Minister resigned, opposition demanded PM Oli’s resignation, and international voices like Amnesty and the UN called for accountability.

Now, the government has lifted the ban, announced compensation for victims’ families, free treatment for the injured, and set up a 15-day investigation panel.
