A double-deck tunnel under Yangcheng Lake opened to traffic on Thursday in Suzhou City, east China's Jiangsu Province, the first double-deck tunnel constructed beneath lakes in China.

This also marks the completion of the North line of Middle Ring Road in Suzhou, a key project of Jiangsu Province.

The tunnel stretching over 4.47 kilometers is 52 meters wide, and its deepest section reaching 24.6 meters under water, thus setting a precedent for building an ultra-deep, ultra-wide, underwater and asymmetric double-deck tunnels in China.

The tunnel connects Suzhou's Xiangcheng District with the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP).

Xiangcheng is one of the most important transportation hubs in the Yangtze River Delta region, while the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), as an intergovernmental cooperation project between China and Singapore, is now one of the most vigorous and efficient in the country.

With an expected daily traffic flow of 150,000 vehicles, the tunnel will further improve the expressway network and speed up the city's transport efficiency.

During the construction, the builders, with scientific and technological innovation, managed to use less farmland and minimize the impact of the construction on the water quality of the Yangcheng Lake, with a view to promoting green development in urban planning.

陽澄湖下的雙層隧道周四在中國東部江蘇省蘇州市通車，這是中國第一條湖底雙層隧道。

這也標誌著江蘇省重點工程蘇州中環北線建成。

隧道全長4.47公里，寬52米，最深處水下24.6米，開創了國內超深、超寬、水下、非對稱雙層隧道建設先河。

該隧道連接蘇州相城區和蘇州工業園區（SIP）。

相城是長三角地區最重要的交通樞紐之一，而蘇州工業園區作為中新政府間合作項目，目前是國內最具活力和效率的項目之一。

該隧道預計每日車流量15萬輛，將進一步完善高速公路網絡，加快城市交通效率。

在建設過程中，建設者通過科技創新，減少耕地佔用，盡量減少建設對陽澄湖水質的影響，促進城市規劃綠色發展。
