The building of Saad Abad Palace was founded during the Qajar rule, and after the coup of 1299 by Reza Khan, when the Pahlavi dynasty came to power, the buildings in the Saad Abad complex were built and constructed by the order of Reza Khan. Parts of the Saad Abad complex were outside of this complex when Reza Khan came to power. They were bought by Reza Shah and added to the Saad Abad complex.
The first existing buildings in the Saad Abad complex are located in a space of 800 square meters, and the Queen Mother Palace was one of the first existing buildings. The Saad Abad collection is currently the largest historical collection left over from the Pahlavi and Qajar periods in Tehran.
The historical complex of Saad Abad is located in an area of nearly 300 hectares, of which about 110 hectares are made up of mansions and palaces, and about 180 hectares are made up of gardens, aqueducts and greenhouses of the Saad Abad complex. In the construction of mansions and palaces of the Saad Abad complex, a combination of European architecture and authentic and traditional Iranian architecture can be seen, and the design of the palaces has been done by the most prominent domestic and foreign engineers.
The engineers who designed the White House in the Saadabad complex were Khorsandi and Boris Rossi. Plastering and interior decorations of the White House were also done by Hermandan Irani, Gholamreza Pahlavan, Abdul Karim Sheikhan, Hossein Kashi, Ostad Larzadeh and Reza Malakeh. At the entrance of the White House, four columns can be seen in the style of Roman architecture, and the main facade is covered with marble stones.
The statue of Reza Khan's boots can be seen in front of the White House. This statue was complete at first and was located in one of the squares of Dezful city, but after the revolution, it was broken by the people of Dezful. The statue of Arash Kamangir, the work of the famous sculptor Ustad Arjang, is also installed in Saad Abad Garden and in front of the White House.
The architect of the Sabz Palace was Mirza Jafar Kashi, nicknamed Memar Bashi. To build the building of the Green Palace, prominent Iranian artists and architects worked for nearly seven years and using green stones from the Khamse Zanjan mine and Khorasan marble, they built a beautiful facade for the Green Palace. This palace is also known as the Marble Palace.
After the Islamic Revolution of Iran, the various palaces of the historical and cultural complex of Saad Abad have been changed and many of them have been turned into museums.
