Extreme heat leads Italy to issue red alerts for 23 out of 27 cities • FRANCE 24 English

Italy is currently experiencing a record high of 41.8 degrees celsius. In Rome, the number of people calling the emergency hotline has increased by 15% while there has also been a 20% increase in those seeking help for heat-related illnesses such as dehydration. This has led 23 out of 27 Italian cities to issue red alerts, as the heat is not just dangerous for society's most vulnerable, but also the general population. FRANCE 24's Seema Gupta tells us more.
