Winter climbing and winter mountaineering in Scotland can seem like a dangerous and expensive pursuit, but there are just a few main things to consider to keep yourself safe in the mountains this winter, and they’re all covered here in my overview of everything you need to know about winter adventures in Scotland, be they technical winter climbs, or more general mountaineering adventures

My main bit of advice? ALWAYS check at least three weather forecasts and always study the avalanche forecast! These two resources can and do save lives. Once you’ve established its safe to go out into those mountains, get some crampons, grab an ice axe and go have a blast. But before any of this, watch everything you can, read everything you can, and get nice and familiar with the concepts, the techniques and the equipment.
