About the Talk:
While Asian countries are experiencing remarkable economic development, they are also at risk of social and economic stagnation and recession due to challenges such as the disparity in living conditions between central and rural areas, the normalisation of traffic congestion in cities, frequent floods, and concerns about overcrowding, housing availability, and property prices.

In response to this situation, Japan has recently proposed the "Digital Garden City Nation Concept" from the perspective of regional revitalization. ASEAN is also promoting smart and sustainable urban development, and the “ASEAN Smart Cities Network” was launched in 2018 during Singapore’s chairmanship of ASEAN. This webinar will examine the possibility of building smart cities in Asia that ensure sustainability and liveability based on the experiences of Japan and ASEAN.

• What is needed to correct the disparity between central and local areas and promote social and economic revitalization in ASEAN and Asia?
• How can the creation of smart cities contribute to social and economic sustainability in the region?
• In July 2022, Japan and Singapore agreed to enhance cooperation in digital economy fields. How will digital transformation (DX) synergise with efforts to build smart and liveable cities, and what are some concrete areas for cross-border and public-private partnerships?
