This glitch works as of the 1.1.6 Update for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. In order to perform this glitch, you will need at least one compatible amiibo and any single controller excluding the Gamepad, Wii U Pro Controller, and the 3DS (preferably, use the Gamecube Controller). The amount of amiibos you are using determines how many players you will be controlling during the match plus one and for this video we will be controlling all 8 fighters at the same time and using 7 different compatible amiibos to do so. This glitch also works in 4-player smash. This glitch does not work online as there is no amiibo functionality online.

In the character selection screen, toggle the player selection card so that it is blank and says "None".

Scan your first amiibo into the NFC reader on your Gamepad then unplug/turn off the controller you are using.

Wait for the Player Selection hand to disappear, then plug back in/turn back on your controller.

Repeat this process with a different compatible amiibo for every additional player you want to control.
