Basil Karlo was an actor from Gotham who, after an accident, destroyed his face. Wanting his face to be the same again, he underwent chemical facial treatment, but after coming into contact with an experimental facial chemical, Basil was transformed into a monstrous mass of clay. He could transform into anything and anyone and from then on his name became Clayface.
