The late Irish Nationalist politician,John Hume, is widely regarded as the most important figure in recent Irish history. As architect of the Northern Ireland peace process he was instrumental in bringing the Troubles to an end. A very capable politician he served as a member of the European Parliament, the UK parliament and the Northern Ireland assembly. John was a recipient of the Nobel Peace prize, the Ghandi Peace prize and the Martin Luther King award...the only person to receive all three awards.
