The feasibility study is one of the most controversial parts of a campaign. At its core, this study is a critical assessment to whether an idea or new project will succeed.

Many consultants will tell you that you have to do a study before launching a major project, and these studies can be very expensive, sometimes $20,000 to $50,000. This can be very tough for many nonprofits as 50-70% of the time a feasibility study will result in a conclusion that a nonprofit is not ready to proceed with additional work.

Think of a feasibility study not as an optional step, but rather as required part of the planning process of launching a campaign. This is a perfect opportunity to ask your donors for their opinions and for their buy-in before ever asking for a donation.
