My bond with Osmaninagar and its people is forged in sweat, spirit and success and it’s a connection that beats like a drum on match day.

After that first Upazila victory, I was invited to join the winning team as a guest and roared through the streets on the famous red bus tour.

A few years ago Rashid handed me the reins as Bangladesh head coach. With Muhammed Nashir we charged to two crowns.

I attended as a guest at the kit launches at Memsaheb on Thames, and worked with Cllr Habib Ali to unite charity through sport.

Abz Hussain’s thunderous strikes and performances were prominent in sealing that first golden trophy.

With Jawar and Jakir selecting Sayfur and me, we led Sylhet to back to back Bangladesh District Cup wins. I really hope we can secure a hat trick in the future.

With Rashid and the team I help out with the news for the annual Charity Boat Race.

Repon Chowdhury, the iconic double winning captain, is a giant of the game; and his first District Cup shirt sits pride of place in my collection.

This year, Kabir and Anam Bhai joined the Bangladesh ranks. With Anam, we launched Hamlets Hike & Trek to build fitness, plus charity walks.

Osmaninagar were the first Upazila to do a community litter pick and the Return To Bangladesh (RTB) tour set the benchmark for local grassroots teams in combining the power of football to help our fellow humans in need.

I’m sure I’ve missed out so many notable people and so many memories in my mentions but these are some of my personal reflections.

The young guns have huge acts to follow in every aspect and as Kabir said during the evening, “we’ve done our bit and handed the reins to you all. We can’t go on forever, but rest assured we will be beside you as you write the next chapters!”

You’re all trailblazers and I hope you storm the next decade with courage and class!
