The LGBTQ pride flag, also known as the rainbow flag, is a symbol of LGBTQ pride and LGBTQ social movements. It was first created in 1978 by artist Gilbert Baker and originally had eight colors: hot pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for magic and art, indigo for serenity, and violet for spirit.

Due to manufacturing issues and design choices, the pink and turquoise stripes were eventually removed, and the indigo stripe was replaced with blue, resulting in the six-color rainbow flag that is commonly used today: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet.

The rainbow flag has become an international symbol of LGBTQ pride and is often displayed during LGBTQ rights events and Pride Month, which is celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots.

In addition to the original rainbow flag, there are various other pride flags that represent specific identities within the LGBTQ community, such as the bisexual pride flag, pansexual pride flag, and the Progress Pride Flag, which includes black and brown stripes to represent queer communities of color.

These flags serve as tangible symbols of unique lived experiences and are used to outwardly represent sexual or gender identity within the LGBTQIA+ community
