ITALY: NATO AIRCRAFT AT AVIANO AIRBASE

Some NATO planes returning to Aviano airbase in Italy on Monday appeared to still be armed including F-16 fighters which hadn't dropped their bombs.

Unusually, only a handful of planes were seen leaving the base early in the evening.

Bad weather has hampered NATO's airstrikes against Yugoslavia throughout its nearly three-week campaign.

Italy is host to 11 NATO bases and warplanes have flown hundreds of sorties out of Aviano since the campaign against Yugoslavia began last month.
