Reddit made some major changes on July 1st 2023 which effectively killed off most 3rd-party applications that people were using to access the website. While some apps that focused on accessibility features were given exemptions, other popular applications like Relay and Boost were told they had to pay upwards of $20 million per year to retain access to Reddit's API.

However, there is a workaround we can do by patching the app with a client ID that we create from our own personal Reddit account. It's free to do, at least as of right now, and is quite easy to fix the RIF is Fun for Reddit app thanks to ReVanced Manager.

To begin this process, we first need to create that Client ID I mentioned from our own reddit account.

From here, we need to click on the Create App button and then fill in some of the details here.
Specifically, we need to give this app a name. And since we're doing this for the RIF app, I'll just go ahead and name it that.

We then need to fill in the Redirect URI field, which should be done as. . .
redditisfun://auth

Don't forget to select the Installed App option here as well.

Click the Create App button that you see down here and it will add the app to your own Reddit account.
If we look here, there will be a 22 character string of letters, numbers, and or symbols.

Let's highlight this string, copy it, and then we're going to paste this inside a newly created TXT file.

And make sure that we name this text file as. . .
reddit_client_id_revanced.txt

. . .then we store that file in the root directory of your device.

With that done, we then need to download the APK file for the RIF is Fun for Reddit application.

Just make sure the RIF app is not installed on your device. If it is, then go ahead and uninstall it before we proceed.

With that APK on hand, we're now going to download the ReVanced Manager application from the official GitHub page.

Sideload the APK for ReVanaced Manager just like you would any other app, and then let's open it up.
When you first launch the application, you'll be asked to grant the app permission to access your files.
After allowing this, you'll then be asked to grant it permission to install other APK files.

Go ahead and allow that as well since we can use the app to install the patched APK file of RIF is Fun for Reddit once it's done the job for us.

So from here, let's patch the Patcher tab down here at the bottom.
Now we're going to select an application
and instead of picking one from this list, we're going to tap the Storage button and then find the APK file for the RIF is Fun for Reddit app that we just downloaded.

Now we can tap the Select Patches option
And we're going to make sure the only thing we're patching here is to change the Oauth Client ID.

Then you're ready to tap the Patch button right here.

Either way, the patched APK file can be sideloaded just like you would any other app you downloaded from outside of the Google Play Store.

You will, however, see a notice from Google Play Protect about there being some changes made to this application.
And since we did the patching ourselves, we know exactly what has changed and that it's safe to install.

So just tap the more info link here and then say we want to install the app anyway.

With all of this done, your newly patched version of RIF is Fun for Reddit has been installed and can be used like normal.
Let's just find the app icon and open it up to begin browsing through Reddit.
