Last week, we celebrated Boun Ok Phansa. The festival, which marks the end of Ok Phansa, or Budhhist lent, culminates with Boun Lai Heua Fai, also know as the Festival of Lights. Families and friends gather to make illuminated boats called kathong to be released into the Mekong. Releasing the kathong signifies letting go of past grievances, wishing for a fresh beginning and paying respect to the Naga, or water spirit. This year, since it was the first big celebration since 2019, the town went big!
The Luang Prabang Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with SUS Tour organized a 7 day festival, the Sabaidee Luang Prabang Fest (from October 6th to 12th) to celebrate! Have a look and mark your calendars for next year! You definitely need to experience this festival at least once...
