The 1983 season was the third consecutive season where Buick pulled out a championship. Ricky Rudd and Bill Elliott got their first wins, scoring the first victories for Richard Childress Racing and Melling Racing. Buddy Baker would score his final victory in the summer race at Daytona. Two cars clashed for the championship all year, but it was Bobby Allison who eked ahead to score his and DiGard Racing's only championship.
