Natural bamboo IS antimicrobial, and is sustainable. There is only 1 problem…it’s freaking wood. Not fabric. For bamboo to become a fiber it must be processed into a rayon. Rayon is a general term for any semi-synthetic material made from cellulosic fibers (aka plants).

The bamboo is chemically broken down into a liquid, and then more chemicals are added to extrude the liquid into a fiber. Rayons can be made from all sorts of plants, including birch trees, orange peels, and yes, bamboo. And this is where it gets crazy. If you mixed a bunch of different types of rayons in a pile and wanted to figure out which fiber was which, there is no way of knowing if it was made of bamboo, or oranges, or trees. And that is because the fibers are so chemically processed they have zero molecular resemblance to the plants they came from!

AKA NOT NATURAL AT ALL!

Bamboo is rayon, nothing more, nothing less. And, certainly, not something we should be calling natural and sustainable.
