After nearly 50 years, West Cornwall's largest theme park has closed for good. Flambards is no-more.
The news came weeks after the park retired several of its older rides. It now remains to see what will happen next and whether it will be sold to another park operator or if the land will be sold to developers.
Flambards started life in 1976 as the Cornwall Aero Park, the dream of Douglas Kingsford Hale and his wife Audrey. After he retired from the Royal Navy, he decided to set up an aviation museum. In those days, the park featured aircraft, engines, and airframes.

In the seventies and eighties, the park grew and expanded and in 1984, "Britain in the Blitz," a mock-up of a bomb-hit street during the Second World War, was opened.
By 1990, the park was renamed "The Flambards Experience" after a popular television period drama, to reflect its widened offering. Early rides featured at the theme park included the Dragon Coaster, the Canyon River Log Flume, Paddle Boats, and the hype glide. It was also during that time that The Victorian Village was added.
