This badass raptor is known as the long-crowned eagle. On a continent (Africa) full of predators, litter, and danger, the tall-crowned eagle must race from the air to find any suitable spot at all. Even so, competition with other birds of prey such as golden eagles and vultures remains constant. Perched on a tall tree or branch, the tall-crowned eagle will discover its prey and pounce on it to catch it. Rodents, reptiles, and small mammals are all fair game to this bird.

The long crested eagle is a distinct eagle when perched because of the long, shaggy crest and all the dark plumage. Adults are blackish-brown with long, thin plumage growing from the back of the crown, which is held erect to form a crest. The secondary feathers are black and barred with light gray and with broad black tips, and the primary feathers and the average underwing are white, forming a noticeable white patch on the upper and lower surfaces of the wing that is visible in flight. The tail is black, surrounded by dull gray.
Adult eyes are bright yellow but can be darker in females, and kilts and feet are yellow, pale to white in males. Juveniles are similar to adults, but the plumage is lighter in color, the crest is not developed, and their eyes are gray. The body length is 53-58 cm (21-23 in) and the female weighs 1300-1500 grams (46-53 ounces), while the smaller males are 912-1300 grams (32.2-45.9 ounces).
