In this video Dr. Moin Mohammed Bhavikatti talks about RIRS procedure for kidney stones removal.
RIRS, or Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery, is an endoscopic procedure that removes renal stones by passing via the ureter and into the kidney. The scope is inserted into the bladder through the urethra (urinary hole) and then into the urine-collecting region of the kidney through the ureter. As a result, the scope is pushed backwards (up the urinary tract system) to the kidney (intrarenal). A stone may be removed using RIRS.
RIRS is an effective and safe approach for treating kidney stones in individuals who have had open surgery, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, or retrograde intrarenal surgery in the past.
