Running Late for a BIG Date | Mitchel Kline's "Happy Anniversary" a New CG Animated Short Film!

An old man is running late for a very important date.

"This film started as a two-person 30 second short between myself (Mitchel Kline) and Brooklyn Gentry, but was scrapped before we could animate. We had only a character, and a 3D rig. Then, we asked Hayden Baker to write a whole new script that was loved by everyone who heard it. The film was officially green-lit when we discovered that a new tool called “Universal Scene Description” was made open source by Pixar. This tool would make moving between 3D softwares quick and easy, so Mitchel and Zech Laughlin did the proper research while the team animated the film. This resulted in a film that could utilize the skillset of Maya users and Blender users alike to make a finished-looking project." - Director Mitchel Kline

Mitchel Kline's Story - IN HIS OWN WORDS:
I grew up in a military family, moving all the time. This led to a lifestyle of homeschooling from 5th Grade through high school. This gave me the opportunity to take extra-curriculars such as guitar and animation. I started The Animation Course in high school, which led me to Lipscomb’s animation program in 2022.


Hayden Baker's Story - IN HIS OWN WORDS:
I am a senior screenwriter from West Texas, and this project was a heart-wrenching joy to work on. My love of animation and fun storytelling took me to the next logical step...grief and heartache. Everyone experiences loss in their life. It's the one human experience we can all relate to, but dealing with that loss is a different beast altogether. I find that true love is knowing that someday it will end and loving them anyway. Celebration of loss is unusual in our culture, but it shows that the time, effort, and dedication were meaningful enough to be missed in the first place. Given all our life losses, this lesson is precious. Love them while they are here, remember them when they leave, and show them that their love carries on inside our hearts.
