Item 4: Human rights situations that require the Council’s attention - General Debate

Thank you Chair,

A systematic heritage genocide is being waged by the successive Sri Lankan government since the Sri Lankan independence in 1948, against Eelam Tamil by killing over 300 000 Tamils.

Now, even the development assistance, obtained from the international community, like IMF funds, GSP Plus from EU, other support from European Union is used to erase the Tamil identity and transform the historical Tamil heritage places into Sinhala-Buddhist places.

The failure on the part of the UN to investigate Tamil genocide through an independent international investigation is the main reason for the continued genocide.

For last 75 years, Tamil Nation from all the districts of North and East took part in Many massive protests including the Vaddukoddai resolution, Suthumalai, Pongutamil, Eluka Thamil, Pottuvil to Pulikandy uprising.

The last one is The north to east rally began in Jaffna on Saturday and ended on Monday, February 7, in Batticaloa in the Eastern provinceis and other was P2P last year, 400 Kilo Meters March in which over 200 000 Tamils Participate. They have urged the Human Rights Council and international community “to refer Sri Lanka to ICC.

Tamil families of the disappeared held many presses conference last Week across North and East of Sri Lanka, calling on the international community to place sanctions on Sri Lankan officials accused of crimes of Genocide and for the Sri Lankan state to be referred to the International Criminal Court.

We ask to the Core group countries special United Kingdom and Canada to be a penholder of a second resolution under Agenda 4 to name a special rapporteur for Sri Lanka.

to give technical assistance to the Tamils who are victims of Genocide
