The Philippines is embarking on a historic military transformation, shifting its focus from internal security to territorial defense in response to escalating regional tensions. With a record-breaking ₱271.9 billion around $4.65 billion defense budget for 2025, the country is making a bold statement about its commitment to sovereignty and security.

In the coming years, the Armed Forces of the Philippine has given the green light to a revamped military modernization initiative dubbed Re-Horizon 3, allocating ₱2 trillion around $35 billion budget over the next decade. Under the ambit of this comprehensive plan, Manila aims to expedite the acquisition of cutting-edge weaponry and equipment to bolster its defense capabilities against evolving threats. Priority areas include enhancing the nation’s maritime domain awareness, connectivity, surveillance, reconnaissance, and intelligence-gathering capabilities.
