The ventricular system of the brain is a network of interconnected cavities (ventricles) filled with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). It plays a vital role in cushioning the brain, maintaining intracranial pressure, and removing waste.

🧠 Main Components of the Ventricular System:

1. Lateral Ventricles (Right & Left)
Connected to the third ventricle via the interventricular foramen (of Monro)

2. Third Ventricle
A narrow, midline cavity in the diencephalon
Communicates with:
Lateral ventricles via foramina of Monro
Fourth ventricle via the cerebral aqueduct (of Sylvius)

3. Cerebral Aqueduct
A narrow canal running through the midbrain

Connects the third and fourth ventricles

4. Fourth Ventricle
Located between the pons and medulla (anteriorly) and the cerebellum (posteriorly)

Opens into:

Central canal of the spinal cord
