In a bold move that has captured national attention, Magezi David William has officially declared his intention to run for President of Uganda in the 2026 General Elections. Speaking at MUBS Guest House, Magezi outlined his vision for the country, emphasizing economic empowerment, education, and governance reforms. His campaign is unique, being entirely funded by 13,000 students he graduated with, each contributing UGX 20,000—an initiative he believes is sufficient to take his message to every corner of Uganda.
A New Dawn for Uganda’s Leadership
Magezi, a fresh and dynamic voice in Uganda’s political landscape, has positioned himself as a champion of the people, calling for transformative leadership that directly addresses the challenges of poverty, corruption, and unemployment. “True, much has been done, but there is still much required to improve the conditions of our people,” Magezi stated. He stressed the need to eradicate abject poverty and highlighted corruption as a major obstacle to economic progress. According to him, Uganda’s biggest problem is not just unemployment but also poor service delivery and ineffective government management.
Funding His Campaign: A People’s Movement
Unlike traditional presidential candidates who rely on vast financial backers and corporate sponsorships, Magezi’s campaign is funded by his peers. His 13,000-strong base of graduates, each contributing UGX 20,000, has raised a substantial amount aimed at mobilizing grassroots support. “This funding is enough to reach every village, every district, and every Ugandan who seeks real change,” Magezi affirmed.
A Five-Point Manifesto for a New Uganda
Magezi has outlined a five-point manifesto aimed at tackling Uganda’s pressing challenges:
Corruption Fight and Economic Empowerment – Strengthening anti-corruption institutions and providing more opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
Education and Health – Increasing investment in education, vocational training, and health infrastructure.
Good Governance and Accountability – Ensuring transparency, merit-based appointments, and decentralization of government services.
Security, National Unity, and Patriotism – Promoting peace and security while fostering national cohesion.
Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development – Implementing policies that protect Uganda’s natural resources for future generations.
Five Key Sectors to Drive Growth
Magezi has also identified five major sectors that his government will focus on to drive economic transformation:
Education – Reforming the education system to align with job market demands.
Agriculture – Modernizing agriculture to boost productivity and exports.
Trade – Creating policies that favor local businesses and protect them from foreign dominance.
Transport – Improving road, rail, and air transport infrastructure.
Tourism – Promoting Uganda as a top global tourist destination to generate foreign exchange.
A Call to the Youth: A Generation Ready to Lead
Magezi strongly believes that Uganda’s current political system has become “thixotropic, stagnant, and unresponsive to the needs of our people.” He has called upon the youth to take an active role in governance, stating that it is time to reinvigorate the system with young, visionary leaders who understand the struggles of the common citizen.
A Stand on Term Limits and Democratic Reforms
In a direct message to President Yoweri Museveni, Magezi urged for the reinstatement of presidential term limits, arguing that while Uganda has made strides in security and economic stability, democracy and political transparency remain unaddressed. “If we do not answer the democracy question, we risk losing everything we have built over the years,” he warned.

Magezi is advocating for a mixed economic system that balances free-market principles with government intervention to protect local enterprises. He emphasized that Ugandans must be safeguarded through public enterprises to ensure they are not outcompeted by foreign investors.
