So over the past week I've been working on a framework in Processing to analyze and visualize the music I'm making with my modular synth. This is the result thus far: a working spectrogram.

Processing is a java-based coding environment designed specifically for artists. Within it I'm using a bit of code to perform a FFT on an incoming signal into my computer (in this case my modular synth) and the code takes that signal and derives the amplitude of each frequency in the spectrum of that audio signal.

Time is in the X axis, frequency is in the Y axis, and color represents the amplitude of that given frequency.

On the modular side, this is a simple patch: a sequencer into a Mannequins Mangrove, with an AR envelope modulating the AIR and Formant inputs of the Mangrove.

This is only a proof of concept of taking an audio input and generating live visualizations of it. Expect crazier things in the upcoming few weeks!
