This book which is, loosely speaking a #was3 in the Uplift series, was published in 1987 and won best novel for the 1987 Nebula award that year, it then won the 1988 Hugo and Locus awards. I think every one of those awards was totally deserved and it seems insane that no one seems to be talking much about these books - they are excellent. It surely did me a while to find this series and this author but I am very glad I did.
