I was walking in Coal Harbour after a client photoshoot when I spotted Minuk snapping photos.

I could see that he was using a Canon R6, but wasn’t sure what lens he was using… so I walked up and asked.

(Spoiler for my fellow camera nerds - it’s a 24-105 F4 🤓)

And since he’s a stranger - I of course asked if I could take his portrait. .😊

He’s never been on the other side of the camera, but let me tell you, Minuk was a natural. 👌

He took direction super well, and best of all, he was super fun to work with.

⚙️ Technical Notes:

The obvious would be to get a photo of him with the mountains in the background, since we were at the waterfront.

But Minuk said he likes photographing nature, so instead, I tried to incorporate as much greenery into the frame as possible.

This meant standing him in front of trees, or even leaning next to a tree.

The mountains were too far away, so although it might look fine, it wouldn’t really add much personality to his photos.

😅 Personal Note:

I’m still not used to people recognizing me.

And at this point, I don’t think I ever will be lol.

It’s funny, because when I started the project, I practiced the “pitch” so many times in my head.

But this scenario has happened enough times by this point and I STILL don’t know how to respond.

“Cool!”

“Oh, awesome!”

I dunno, just doesn’t sit right haha.

What I really want to say is “That’s super cool. I never expected this project to reach this level, and I’m grateful AF that these stories have been seen by so many people. I’m honoured you recognize me - but I’m a little awkward and don’t know what to say. I also still struggle with accepting compliments or recognition.... Btw can I take your photo?”

But it’s a bit of a mouthful lol. 😅
