Even though The Fashion Design Book focuses on flat garment sketches, it can still be used for fashion illustrations. It provides a library of many silhouettes and design details, allowing you to mix and match different parts of the garment to create your unique style.

I'll demonstrate how to use the book to draw a fashion illustration sketch. In this process, I'll refer to my inspiration. If you don't have inspiration yet, refer back to the QR code in The Fashion Design Book for an inspiration guide.

The Fashion Design Book focuses on flat garment sketches, offering a library of silhouettes and style details. Despite this, you can still use these resources for fashion illustrations.

Using The Fashion Design Book, you can mix and match necklines, silhouettes, dresses, skirts, and sleeves to design clothes.

These are sketches from The Fashion Design Book, which is available in a PDF version for printing. I'll use some of my favorite sketches to create a dress.

Before selecting different silhouettes and style details, I looked at my inspiration photos, such as a glacier and architectural elements. These inspirations guide the lines and patterns of the design, reflecting pleats, gathers, and structure.

I'll use a mermaid silhouette for this design, incorporating structured sleeves and a full-body drape fabric. I'll use tracing paper to outline the croquis, making sure the proportions are accurate. After outlining, I'll start layering the dress design on top, considering the slants and proportions of the croquis.

Next, I'll figure out the design lines to achieve a tight fit, using princess seams or panels. Inspired by my references, I'll create unique design lines and adjust the hem for a more structured look.
