Luke Skywalker Was NOT Out of Character in The Book of Boba Fett

Описание к видео Luke Skywalker Was NOT Out of Character in The Book of Boba Fett

The Book of Boba Fett chapter 6 featured the return of Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master. Many thought criticized the depiction of Luke Skywalker because of a decision he made Grogu make. Some would go as far to say Luke Skywalker was "out of character" in the book of boba fett. This is wrong. In this video, I discuss why Luke Skywalker Was NOT Out of Character in The Book of Boba Fett

So was Luke Skywalker out of character in the book of Boba Fett? The reason a lot of people have been asking this stems from the ultimatum that he gave Grogu. He can either choose to go back to the Mandalorian and give into his attachments as Luke said. Or he can choose to become a Jedi, but he may never see The Mandalorian again. Grogu obviously ends up choosing to be with The Mandalorian, but was forcing Grogu to make this choice something that was out of character for Luke Skywalker to do? It is not and here’s why. Ahsoka warned Luke that Grogu and The Mandalorian share a strong bond. Luke himself has noticed that in Grogu’s heart he sometimes doesn’t want to be a Jedi. Luke understands the importance of attachments and how beneficial they can be to someone. In Return of the Jedi, it was his attachment to his father that brought him back to the light side. Luke understands this but I feel there is a difference here between Luke’s relationships and Grogu’s relationship to The Mandalorian. Luke of course loves his friends and family, but it’s not the same kind of love that Grogu has for Mando. Grogu see’s Mando as a father, someone who’s been there for through so much. Luke doesn’t fear not being with his family the same way Grogu probably fears not being with his surrogate father in Mando. It’s not the same kind of possessive love that Anakin had for Padme, but he does fear losing Mando in a way Anakin feared losing Padme. Also Grogu is a child, sure he’s a bit more intelligent than a human baby, but just like any kid they rely on their parents more than anything. I think Luke acknowledges that there’s a danger in forcing Grogu to be away from The Mandalorian. Luke made the mature decision to give Grogu a choice, and not forcing him down a path that in his heart he doesn’t want to go down. The Jedi from the prequel trilogy I don’t feel would have given Grogu this decision. They probably would have forced Grogu to be a jedi which could lead him down a path to the dark side. So in my eyes it is perfectly in Luke's nature to give Grogu a choice in his future. Now you could poke holes in Luke’s thought process here. Like that he shouldn’t be leaving this big of a decision to a child. But that’s honestly better than the alternative of forcing Grogu to be somewhere he doesn’t want to be. I’ve also heard people make the argument that this choice is weird considering at the end of the mandalorian season 2, Grogu did choose to be with Luke instead of being with Mando. But you could argue that Grogu is a child, maybe he made a decision without much thought being put into it, and then he deep down ultimately regretted that decision and would have chosen differently had he known he would not be able to see the Mandalorian. Children make decisions they regret all the time, why should we not expect anything different from Grogu. The last point I want to touch on and this may bother some people, is that this version of Luke is also in character with what we know of him in The Last Jedi. What we learned in the last jedi was that Luke made a lot of mistakes during his time as a jedi master, and especially that he wasn’t a perfect teacher. In this series we see Luke have doubts and not always having all the answers. I was glad the version of Luke Skywalker we see after Return of the Jedi isn’t this perfect Jedi that has no flaws and always knows best. Luke Skywalker at his core has always been a flawed person, someone just like you and me. And those flaws are what make Luke such a relatable character, and what makes him one of my favorite characters too. Deciding what to do with the child isn’t an easy decision, and I was glad that this was something Luke struggled with. We all need to remember who Luke Skywalker is, and I couldn’t be happier that it appears Filoni and Favreau are aware of this. see me tackle a lot of other topics about the book of boba fett
