Andrew McKeon obtained his medical degree from University College Dublin (2000). He undertook internal medicine and neurology training in Ireland which he completed at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota as a fellow in movement disorders and then autoimmune neurology. He joined the faculty at Mayo Clinic in Rochester in 2009, with a joint appointment in the Departments of Neurology, and Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.

He is a Director of the Neuroimmunology Laboratory, Director of the Autoimmune Neurology Fellowship and is Enterprise Director for MS and Autoimmune Neurology at Mayo Clinic. He is a Professor of Neurology, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology in the College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic. He is certified by the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland in both Medicine and Neurology, is a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology, and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK).

Dr McKeon’s research and clinical interests pertain to the evaluation and treatment of patients with autoimmune CNS disorders. His laboratory provides clinical diagnostic testing for patients with autoimmune neurological disease.

In addition, he and his research and development team discover new biomarkers of autoimmune disease, and optimize testing methods for clinical use. He has published over 150 original peer-reviewed research manuscripts, and serves on the editorial board of Neurology: Neuroimmunology & Neuroinflammation.

In his time as a faculty neurologist and Director of the Neuroimmunology Laboratory, his research and development focus has been on clinical characterization of autoimmune CNS disorders, discovery of novel neural autoantibodies, validation of novel autoantibody tests and other clinical immunologic biomarkers, and therapeutic trials.
