Open the Bottle - Jack Daniel's Bonded Tennessee Whiskey and Triple Mash Whiskey are two recent releases from the maker of the best-selling whiskey in the world, Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 Tennessee Whiskey. I always wanted to try the Bottled In Bond expression from Jack but it was travel retail only and my international travel was never frequent so I didn't get the chance. Now, this Bonded release is pretty much everywhere around here for $39 so I grabbed a couple of bottles and the only Triple Mash on the shelf that day too, also for $39. That price may be high in an absolute sense based on the scale of the distiller but in today's market, it's pretty fair given the pedigree, packaging, and availability. We're split here at The Practical Still. I like both of these while Dan isn't a fan of the Bonded. We both like the Triple Mash but I think more of it than Dan. Dan is a Dickel fan but I'm a fan of the broader genre of Tennessee whiskey so I just think these two are more up my alley from a more basic sense.

Bonded is classic Jack but amped up a bit at 100 proof. Sweet on the tongue, decent mouthfeel, lovely finish. Triple Mash has more of a floral nose and a different sweetness across the palate. The label tasting notes call out honey and guess that could be it. It is for sure a sweetness based on a floral source so honey does make sense. I like it! I think it's the higher malt content that appeals to me. I'll put a couple of these back just in case but I can see these being open on the shelf for the time being. Delicious neat and over ice. I'm thinking they'll make nice Old Fashioned cocktails too and I'll keep you posted on that.
