Before undergoing an intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedure, it is important to undergo a thorough evaluation to ensure the best chances of success. The evaluation typically involves the following:

1. Medical History: Your doctor will take a detailed medical history, including any previous pregnancies, reproductive health issues, medical conditions, and medications you are currently taking.

2. Physical Examination: A physical examination will be conducted to assess your overall health, including a pelvic examination to check for any abnormalities in the reproductive organs.

3. Hormone Testing: Blood tests will be done to measure hormone levels, particularly follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). These tests help evaluate ovarian function and determine the best timing for the IUI procedure.

4. Ovulation Assessment: Ovulation is a crucial factor for the success of IUI. Various methods can be used to determine if and when you are ovulating, including tracking basal body temperature, monitoring changes in cervical mucus, and using ovulation predictor kits.

5. Tubal Patency Test: A test may be performed to ensure that your fallopian tubes are open and not blocked. This can be done through a hysterosalpingogram (HSG), where a dye is injected into the uterus, and X-rays are taken to observe the flow of the dye through the fallopian tubes.

6. Semen Analysis: A semen analysis will be conducted on the male partner to assess sperm count, motility, and morphology. This helps determine if IUI is an appropriate treatment option or if additional interventions are needed.

7. Infectious Disease Screening: Both partners may undergo tests to screen for infectious diseases, such as HIV, hepatitis B and C, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It is essential to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the IUI procedure.

8. Genetic Testing: Depending on your medical history and any known genetic conditions, genetic testing may be recommended to assess the risk of passing on genetic disorders to the offspring.
