Fly Fishing with Neil Young - Houston Area

Описание к видео Fly Fishing with Neil Young - Houston Area

I recently had to take my wife to a work certification thing for her work out in Houston. She is a nurse and has to update certifications every 5 years. So I was out in Houston for a few days with not a lot to do. My parents watched our kids, so I was finally free to go fish. I made a video last week telling everyone I was going to fish in Houston, and Niel Young let me know he would be willing to show me around to his favorite spots. So obviously it's not the same Niel Young you all were probably thinking about. It's not the singer, but an awesome subscriber of mine who was a pleasure to spend the day with.

So Neil said he used to work in the office buildings around this area we fished. Many of the business parks out this way have large ponds on their property and hiking trails. He said when he first got into fly fishing, he was able to bring his fly rods with him to work and would go fish these ponds during lunch or after work. Granted we didn't have the best luck this day, but this was only because it was the day after a major cold front came through. Just the day before was 70+ degrees, and the night before we went to fish, the temp dropped down to the mid 30's. I believe this sent the fish deeper and caused them to not be as aggressive. Unfortunately we didn't see any action at these ponds, however we did finally find some fish at a small creek behind a community park near by. I think this creek was one of my favorite fishing spots ive fished out in Texas! The fish were not big, but it sure reminded me of some of the small creeks I would fish for native cutthroat out in Colorado.

To finish up the day, we went to a small ditch behind a community that apparently held fish, and sure enough the first couple casts we both got a fish!

I will say, I was not expecting to do this type of fishing out in Houston. I was thinking more saltwater, fishing for redfish near Galveston. However, I think this turned out to be a better time. I was able to fish with a great guy, and without having to worry about stingrays, sharks or alligators, all of which are plentiful in the Galveston area.

If you haven't already check out my sponsor Risen Fly. They made the rod and reel I used today. They sell more than just rods and reels, but also fly line, fly tying materials, hooks, tools, and much more. All of which are top quality at mind blowing prices! For instance, that rod I used is one of the best casting rods Ive ever used, it's called the Genesis, and it is only $129.
