Rolling into April with Episode 6 (not 5 as the titles say) of my HEAR HEAR series with another extraordinary guest. Please welcome CARL AUSTIN BEHAN O.B.E - he's the first gentleman to be interviewed for this series and you will find that he has a ton of inspiring and enlightening stories to share. It is a blessing to be able to talk freely and openly about exploring and discovering one's sexuality (advanced warning that this is a no holds barred discussion - flagged parental advisory before you view). We discuss how it was and what it is to be, what the dangers and challenges were through the 80s and what we can take pride in now having grown up to be LGBTQ+ from the 1980s to the present day. It is an epic journey that takes him from the Boys' Brigade to the R.A.F, from the fire service to Mr Gay UK and from the City Council to becoming the first openly gay Mayor of Manchester. Married in 2015, he became a father in 2018 and was awarded an OBE in 2020. He's lived a rich and varied life as is revealed through this honest, educational and triumphant conversation and I am deeply honoured that he chose to share his time and his life so openly with me.
