Alice Weidel, co-leader of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), faced loud protests during an open-air interview with public broadcaster ARD. Demonstrators near parliament blared a loop of "scheiss AfD" (shit AfD), nearly drowning out her remarks.

Weidel reiterated her party’s hardline stance, vowing to end cash benefits for asylum seekers and deport ineligible migrants, citing 215,000 Syrians in Germany as an example. Her comments came as an Insa poll showed the AfD at 24%, trailing only the conservative CDU/CSU.

A polarizing figure, Weidel—a Goldman Sachs alum with a Chinese economics PhD—leads a male-dominated party while raising two sons with her Sri Lankan-born partner. The AfD, strongest in eastern Germany, frames itself as a champion of "traditional values," even as its rhetoric draws fierce opposition.
