This video demonstrates examination of the knee joint looking at common presentations in the outpatient practice.

The examination follows the same basic principles of ‘Look, feel, move and special tests’ but not necessarily in the same chronology for the purposes of efficiency and adhering to the style of examination taught in Australian orthopaedic practice.
The general format is the same but one will need to vary certain points according to the patient being examined and suspected pathology. For example, the likely diagnosis in a 70 year old lady is along degenerative diseases / osteoarthritis, whereas, an 18 year old sportsman is most likely suffering from a sports injury such as acute trauma and internal derangement, for example cartilage or meniscal injury, ligament injury, patellar dislocation etc. Certain parts of the examination may need to vary or be emphasised more accordingly.
