In a remote section of the campus of Pierce College in the San Fernando Valley, there is a remarkable and little known folk art environment, Old Trapper’s Lodge (California State Landmark 939.5)—but it might not be there for much longer.

If the artwork must be moved from campus, we are advocating that an RFP (request for proposals) be circulated to find the best possible steward for the landmark. Info on this advocacy campaign is at https://esotouric.com/oldtrapperslodge/

On March 2, 2022 our Richard Schave listened to several hours of public comment about the controversial disability rights court case Payan vs. LACCD before making his own comment seeking a preservation solution for Old Trapper's Lodge.

It seems notable that Old Trapper's Lodge is the life's work of John Ehn, a partially paralyzed artist who created a California State Landmark in the decades before the ADA was enacted. While we didn't anticipate spending the afternoon listening to the testimony of members of the disability rights community, we were honored to bear witness to their noble fight for access to education and for their basic human rights.
