Amid the ongoing controversy around priest Yati Narsinghanand's disputable remarks against Prophet Muhammad, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that derogatory remarks against saints and priests of any religion or faith are unacceptable and people responsible for that will be punished. Due to the controversial statements of Narsinghanand, tension has spread in many districts of western Uttar Pradesh.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a charge sheet against Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, ruling out the possibility of gang rape.
According to the CBI's charge sheet, submitted to a special court in Kolkata, Roy, who was working as a civic volunteer with the local police, committed the crime on August 9. The incident took place when the victim was resting in the hospital's seminar room during a break.
