Before the luxury homes and hillside views we all recognize today, Anaheim Hills was pure cowboy country.

Long before housing tracts and golf courses, these hills were part of wide open ranch lands that stretched from Yorba Linda to Santiago Canyon. Families raised cattle and citrus, and dirt trails connected homesteads instead of gated communities.

By the 1970s developers saw something different in those rolling hills. What used to be open range quickly became prime real estate and helped shape the lifestyle that Orange County is now known for.

It is one of the clearest snapshots of how fast OC transformed from ranch land into one of Southern California’s most sought after suburban enclaves.

So the next time you are driving through Anaheim Hills, remember that those winding roads once echoed with horses, not Teslas.
