Season 7 of "Theater: All the Moving Parts" comes to a close with a look back at three unforgettable productions. “Liberation”—a play we featured earlier this year—is transferring to Broadway this fall with its full original cast. “Swept Away”—a stirring musical with music by The Avett Brothers—closed prematurely but left a lasting legacy. And just this month, Audra McDonald ended her historic run as Mama Rose in “Gypsy.” Our panel of theater voices reflects on what this groundbreaking revival means for Broadway’s future.

🎭 A New York Times Critics’ Pick, “Swept Away” tells the story of the 19th-century shipwreck Mignonette through brotherhood, survival, and sacrifice. With music by The Avett Brothers, it played a brief but powerful Broadway run.
🎭 John Gallagher Jr., Stark Sands, Adrian Blake Enscoe, and Wayne Duvall reflect on creating new roles. Gallagher Jr. says: “We got to be part of something that felt almost mythic… a story about survival, about brothers, about being tested. It’s the kind of piece that stays with you, no matter how long it runs.”
